“Repeat a mantra silently to yourself while you stroll through the labyrinth,” a thirty-something man with a bushy beard told us.
I gazed at the twinkle lights laid across the grass in a circular maze pattern and then over at a group of children, whose distant laughter barely echoed from the other end of the park. About twenty people stood along the outskirts of the maze. While I wondered what brought each person to the labyrinth, I had zero interest in doing introductions to hear their stories . . . or share mine. All I knew is that I was on a mission to embrace anything the cosmos could offer to help me heal and find my soulmate. And if walking through twinkle lights would do it, I was willing to try. We all lined up and entered one at a time. Once inside, I decided to give my mantra from the energy healing session another chance.
“I am grateful for my healing process,” I uttered in my head. I hadn’t said it three times before realizing I still didn’t feel gratitude for this awful process and was now stuck behind a bunch of slow people pontificating as they meandered through.
I wanted to yell, “Hurry up. My mantra sucks, and I need to get out of here.” But I didn’t. I just silently strolled along, counting the seconds until I could make a dash for my car.
“You will want this one for healing and definitely a rose quartz for love.” The lady behind the counter dropped both crystals into a small paper bag and handed it to me.
I stood there wondering why, after the labyrinth bust, I felt the need to buy crystals.
As quickly as the doubt poured in, a voice inside me tried to squash it. “Do not give up on the spiritual realm. Energy healing, manifesting, and the Law of Attraction seem to be working. If the crystals do, too, you could be healed and with your soulmate in no time.” The voice paused. “Plus, these rocks are only a few bucks. Don’t be cheap, Corey.”
I gave in to the sales tactics of my subconscious and paid the lady.
Right before going to bed that night, I gripped the crystals in my hand and said my mantra again. I felt nothing except a sweaty palm and not any bit more grateful for my healing process. I guess that’s three dollars I’ll never get back.
