Sage Goddess Crystals for Traveling

-

After so much time cooped up in our personal spaces, many of us are getting bitten by the travel bug and planning getaways near and far. Of course, everyone has their must-have travel items, but did you know that crystals make excellent travel companions? Whether you’re a crystal master or new to gemstone healing, traveling with your stones is a powerful way to stay protected, positive, and open to new experiences. That’s why I wrote this blog: Crystals for Traveling – 5 Wanderlust Gems, to connect you with some of the best traveling gems on the planet.

Before setting off on your trip, be mindful of what you may expect on your holiday and how the location change will impact your mood, health, and intentions. Why are you going on this journey? Is it for pleasure? Are you reconnecting with friends and loved ones? Is it business-related? Whatever your reasons for travel, there are potent stones that can cleanse, restore, and empower not only your energy but the energies around you.

If you’re new to working with gemstones, check out the Crystal Healing page on my website for more information, plus my top 13 gemstones.

Top 5 Stones for Traveling

1. Crazy Lace Agate

This gem encourages you to stay present in the moment – feeling safe, secure, and well. Its swirling pattern brings a circular flow of energy that stimulates the mind and body. Our nomadic ancestors in ancient times made healing and protective amulets from crazy lace agate. They found that it prevented accidents during travel and helped strengthen the body, orient the mind, and bring peaceful calm. Today, we work with this gem for these same benefits. Crazy lace agate is also a happy stone. It helps you find joy and laughter during difficult times.

2. Iolite

Iolite, also known as cordierite, helps you find your way through the voyage of life with direction and clarity. The Vikings used it to help them “see” their voyages in their Third Eye Chakra before they left the shore. Iolite guides you in understanding what your heart truly wants and helps you see what lies ahead so that you can take the best course of action. This gem also provides guidance for sacred and divine peace.

3. Black Kyanite

Black kyanite is a powerful clearing, protective, grounding, and energizing gem that activates the Earth Star Chakra. It’s the only stone that can clear negative energies from other stones, and it never needs to be cleared or cleansed itself. Black kyanite also increases interdimensional awareness and helps you connect with spirit guides and access past life memories to see clearly where your soul needs healing and retrieval.

4. Dream Amethyst

This stone is all about healing, clearing, and detoxifying. Dream amethyst is a mixture of amethyst and white quartz that deepens meditation and connects you to the higher realms, including your angels and spirit guides. It clears the aura and creates a protective bubble around you, wrapping you up in a shield to ward off psychic attacks and any negative energies. Change becomes more manageable when you work with dream amethyst – it lessens resistance to change, helping you grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. Bonus: Dream amethyst helps you get restful sleep – something not always easy to do when traveling.

5. Hessonite Garnet

Hessonite garnet is known as the traveler’s stone – it brings good relationships to travelers. It’s also a traditional wealth stone heralded for bringing prosperity and abundance. Hessonite garnet is a stone of synchronicity that aligns you with the energetic frequencies of success and reveals new sources for financial opportunities. It resonates with the Sacral Chakra and activates the lower chakras, protecting your energetic field from unwanted influences.

Leave Your Emotional Baggage

The period before travel can result in a frantic rush to pack and resolve any loose ends before you take off. It may be helpful to practice letting go of pent-up, negative energies tied to your daily routines. Releasing these obstructions will allow you to approach your trip cleansed, renewed, and with an open heart and mind. Similarly, cleansing and charging the gems you plan to take on your journey removes any residual energies contained within and empowers your stones for the adventure ahead. You can learn more about cleansing and charging your crystals in my blog here.

On The Road

One important aspect of traveling with crystals is maintaining access to these essential tools so you can work with their medicine when needed. If you can, consider using a Magical Traveling Tool Case to keep your stones and crystals safe and secure, or wear them as jewelry or tucked in a pocket. You can also tuck stones in your bra or carry a medicine bag.

Air Travel

Security while traveling through the air has never been stricter, and while our crystals are harmless, they may arouse suspicions when passing through airport security. In the United States, the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) is responsible for screening passengers before boarding flights. According to the TSA’s rules for transporting rocks or stones, it’s acceptable to pack your crystals in either your carry-on or checked bags. However, if you do not wish to check your stones in your luggage, you may hold your stones and present them to the security agent during your screening to avoid confusion or alarm. It’s also important to remember that checked bags sometimes become lost or misrouted and if your gem work is vital for your trip, carrying your gems in a carry-on or on your person may be best. Of course, to avoid disappointing surprises, be sure to check ahead of time with your airline for any exceptions or changes to their stone policies.

Cruises

Cruise ships offer ample opportunity for gemstone magic due to the seclusion provided by guest staterooms. While cruise lines like Royal Caribbean do not prohibit stones or crystals, it’s best to check with your cruise provider before bringing sacred stones onboard. It may also be necessary to check the local laws for any ports of call you stop at if you plan to take your gems onshore.

Rail Travel

Like airlines, rail companies allow travelers to both check and carry-on luggage. One of the largest rail carriers in the United States is Amtrak. Amtrak’s guidelines for prohibited items indicate gemstones are considered jewelry and should only be carried on your person or in carry-on luggage. Due to liability concerns, gems are not allowed in checked baggage. While this may be problematic for larger stones, stones worn as jewelry or carried on your person should not cause any trouble.

Automobile Travel

The least restrictive travel method mentioned so far, travel by road, provides ample opportunity to utilize your crystals without judgment from authorities. While a vehicle is not the most spacious environment to practice gemstone magic, it’s not impossible. Typically set on the central console, a vehicle’s ashtray proximity to both the driver and passengers makes it an ideal location to create a sacred traveling altar space. Just be sure that your portable altar doesn’t obstruct your (or your driver’s) ability to operate the vehicle safely.

Gratitude for Safe Travel

Upon arrival, take time to thank your crystal allies for a safe journey. Then, cleanse and charge your stones by leaving them in the full moonlight, smudging, or keeping them close to the previously mentioned black kyanite to prepare them for whatever the remainder of your trip has in store. Finally, remember to keep your stones on you, or at least nearby, so you can work with them as needed. With these potent tools at your fingertips, any trip can become a great escapade.
